What is Bhava Bala (House Strength)?

Bhava Bala ('house strength') measures how well-supported each of the twelve houses is in your chart. Where Shadbala scores the planets, Bhava Bala scores the houses themselves — telling you which areas of life carry the most strength to deliver their results.

Each house earns its total from three sources: the strength of its lord (Bhāvādhipati Bala), its directional placement (Bhava Dig Bala), and the aspects it receives (Bhava Dṛṣṭi Bala). The three combine into a total in virupas, which converts to rupas at 60 virupas per rupa.

The Three Sources of House Strength

Bhāvādhipati Bala (Lord's Strength)

The Shadbala of the house lord, carried over to the house it rules. A strong lord lends its house the power to deliver; a weak lord leaves the house struggling regardless of who sits in it.

Bhava Dig Bala (Directional Strength)

Strength from the natural significator of each house being well-placed by direction. Houses of wealth, courage, and gains draw on the directional power of their classical significators.

Bhava Dṛṣṭi Bala (Aspectual Strength)

Net aspect on the house — benefic aspects (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury) add strength; malefic aspects (Saturn, Mars, the nodes) subtract it. This component can be negative when malefics dominate.
