Sade Sati, in brief
Sade Sati is the approximately 7½-year period when Saturn transits the sign immediately before your natal Moon sign, the Moon sign itself, and the sign immediately after it. It is counted from the Moon—not from your Sun sign—and unfolds in three phases.

Sade Sati literally means 'seven and a half.' It is a sign-based Saturn transit counted from the natal Moon, not a separate planetary period or dosha. Because Saturn spends about 2.5 years in each sign, the three-sign passage lasts approximately 7.5 years.
The cycle returns roughly every 29.5 years. Its exact duration is not three perfectly fixed blocks: Saturn can cross a sign boundary more than once during retrograde motion. A dated calculation should therefore track each ingress, exit, and re-entry.
How Does Sade Sati Work?
The cycle begins when Saturn enters the sign 12th from your natal Moon, continues while Saturn crosses the Moon sign, and ends after Saturn leaves the sign 2nd from the Moon. These are the Rising, Peak, and Setting phases. Retrograde motion can create exits and re-entries within a phase.
