Three things together. First, your running Mahadasha and Antardasha — these decide which part of your chart is active and set the overall tone of the year. Second, the major transits: where Saturn (Shani), Jupiter (Guru), Rahu, and Ketu are moving relative to your Moon sign and Ascendant. Third, the shorter transits of Mars, Sun, and Mercury that create the week-to-week texture. A good reading weighs all three, not just one.

Because dasha tells you which parts of your chart are switched on right now. A strong transit over a bhava whose lord is not in dasha often produces noise without real change. A moderate transit over a bhava whose lord IS active in dasha tends to produce visible, lived results. Transits are triggers; dasha is the environment that decides whether the trigger actually lands.

Sade Sati (Saturn's 7.5-year transit through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd houses from your natal Moon) and the Dhaiyas (Saturn through the 4th and 8th) are the most tracked Saturn influences in Jyotish. They typically ask for more patience, more responsibility, and less risk-taking — not failure, but slower compounding. A year-ahead reading names which phase you are in and what it tends to ask of a person in that phase.

It can name windows where a kind of event is more likely — a promotion, a marriage, a move, a health-heavy phase — and it can describe what the window tends to demand. It cannot name the date or guarantee the outcome. Treat the reading as a map of terrain, not a calendar of events. The value is in preparing for the right kind of year, not in chasing a fixed prediction.

A Moon-sign horoscope groups everyone born under the same Rashi into one paragraph. A chart-based year-ahead uses your specific dasha, ascendant, planetary dignities, and how transits hit your chart in particular. Two people with the same Moon sign but different birth times, years, or ascendants usually get very different year-ahead readings. Shared Moon-sign content is fine for flavour; it should not be mistaken for personal timing.
