The nine karmic debts (Rin) in Lal Kitab
In Lal Kitab, a Rin is a karmic debt: an inherited responsibility, such as an obligation toward family, ancestors or the community, that a chart can carry. There are nine in all. They are read as something to settle gently through conduct and charity, never as a curse, and most charts carry none.
What is a Rin?
A Rin is best thought of as an unpaid responsibility carried into this life, not a punishment. Lal Kitab links each debt to a planet and the houses it touches, and reads it as an area of life to tend with care and generosity. A Rin is detected only when a specific planet-and-house pattern appears, so it is the exception rather than the rule: many charts carry no Rin at all, and some carry one.
The nine Rin
An obligation toward the father and the paternal line, honoured through respect for elders and for one's lineage.
An obligation toward the mother and the maternal side, honoured through care and respect for the mother.
A responsibility toward a partner and the women in one's life, honoured through respect and clean, fair conduct.
A debt to one's own self: the call to live with self-respect, honesty and steady conduct.
An obligation toward brothers and close relations, honoured through warm, fair ties with siblings.
A responsibility toward daughters and sisters, honoured through care and goodwill toward them.
The debt of harsh or merciless conduct, settled through kindness, service and patience.
An old, unseen obligation, met through humility and quiet charity.
A debt to the divine, honoured through devotion, good conduct and simple acts of faith.
